Snow Buddies: Caardvarks Winter Challenge

Posted on 12:30 by Unknown
Hi Guys, posts may have weird times for a little while, since I'm running behind from these bad chronic migraines :o( & posting when I can. Post times will be more regular again soon. Thanks for your patience! :o)

This card is for the Caardvarks Winter challenge. You still have until tomorrow at midnight, if you'd like to join in with a winter card HERE (and you could win new Hero Arts stamps!). :o)

Here are the details of how it was made...

Stamps: The challenge was sponsored by Hero Arts & we all used brand new Hero Arts stamps (that will be available later this month from their Holiday 2009 Catalogue!)

Hero Arts stamps used here:

1) "Make Your Own Snowman"
2) "Antique Brocade" Cling Stamp
3) the sweet little snowflakes from "Holiday Sentiments"

Paper: Kraft cardstock & BasicGrey Gypsy patterned paper
Ink: white pigment ink & embossing powder, Black pigment ink & clear e.p.
Misc: White taffeta ribbon (S.U.), Copic markers, Scotch tape (to mask), curvy template, BasicGrey brads (some coloured with Copic markers), white & coloured embroidery thread, paper piercer, & needle.

For the background card:

1) Folded a 5 1/2 inch square Kraft card & traced a curvy template to shape the bottom.
(You can find some curves in the template in this post, if you'd like.)

2) Masked off a hill shape with scotch tape & embossed the The "Antique Brocade" background cling stamp in white pigment ink & embossing powder

3) Sponged white pigment ink over the snowy hill & removed the scotch tape mask

4) Stamped the snowflakes (from Hero Arts' "Holiday Sentiment" set) in white pigment ink (and embossed in both white & clear embossing powder.)

5) Stitched on white Taffeta ribbon in pleats with turquoise thread

6) Stitched along the bottom of the snowy hill with white thread & then cheated to get rainbow stitches: the white stitching was tinted with a rainbow of Copic marker colours

--I find this way too fun to do; feels like you're getting away with something sneaky 'cause it's so fast, but it looks like you re-threaded your needle with a bazillion colours of thread. hehehe. ;o)

7) Faux stitched in between the white stitches with a black marker.

to make the snow buddies:

This Build your own Snowman set makes you feel like a kid again. (Warning: it may have you singing "Frosty the snowman" all day. I drove C. batty with that, heeeheee)

1) Embossed the circles (from Hero Arts' "Make Your Own Snowman" set) & faces in black on patterned paper & cut them out.

2) Adhered them to a strip of cardstock (hidden when they're finished, but makes them sturdy like thin chipboard.)

3) Added some brads (some were tinted with Copic markers.)

4) Made their arms (in the stamp set too), embossed them, coloured & cut them *leaving a tab on the base if the branches to adhere them easily)

5) Tied bows from white satin ribbon, dyed them with copic markers, & stitched them on.

to make the birdies:

The snow buddies wanted some birdy pals.
Layers of Kraft cardstock made them like thin chipboard.

1) Cut out a bird shape from patterned paper
2) Glue the bird shapes to one layers of Kraft cardstock & trim it
3) Pierced around it & on the wing & stitch with embroidery thread
4) Colour the wings with Copic markers

5) Glue it all to a second piece of kraft cardstock
6) Cut the birdies out
7)Distress the edges with black ink

Thank You for having a peek. Hope you can
join in the challenge with us! :O)
