Mo's Skating pictorial: heat embossed paper piecing & fake french knot snow

Posted on 07:30 by Unknown
Dear Subscribers, SO sorry for the extra double email post this morning. I'm sleep deprived LOL.

Mo's Digital Pencil Skating mel stampz

First off, you guys give me too much credit! You may be very happy to know that these are not french knots. They're plain old knots with embroidery thread and you'd be surprised how quick & easy they are (all the details are at the bottom of this pictorial) :o)

1...heat embossed paper piecing Mo's Digital images
2...cheap tricks (fake french knots for snow)

...and now for my #1 addiction: paper piecing Mo's stunning images

-1-

heat-embossed paper piecing with Mo's Digital Images:
(If you'd like to see a larger picture please click the photos)

(listed in the instructions) :o)

making the paper piece layers:

THE IMAGE
("Skating" from Mo's Digital Pencil) is embossed from my printer on Incandescent cardstock from Paper Temptress [using clear embossing powder & a heat gun (just print, sprinkle e.p. quickly when it comes out of the printer & heat set.]

BELLA's COAT: BasicGrey patterned paper Urban Prairie Paper: Petticoat--shaded with
Prismacolour pencil crayons. The bottom of her coat (on the main image) is stitched with a row of turquoise embroidery thread.

COLOURING... is all done with Copic markers since the Incandescent paper needs the permanence of them. It gives it a really unique sparkle.

Laying down the paper piece layers:

Layer #1:

The first layer... is all one piece with the main embossed image, & just the bits you see coloured here.

The only real tricks to the cutting (assuming you want to piece Bella's scarf & the hand-warmer) are to cut away the hand warmer, and cut a line under Bella's hair, so it can go over the scarf:

(just don't glue it down yet) :o)

I also later cut away the insides of the skate bottoms with an exacto blade (silly afterthoughts!)

Layer #2:

Bella's coat goes on next...

It's printed on BasicGrey Petticoat patterned paper (stuck to a piece of copy paper, it goes through the printer like a dream!) It's shaded with Prismacolour pencils, coloured with Souffle pens & stitched.

Layer #3:

Bronte the doggy. Holding on for dear life (methinks he is afraid of the dark!) He's just all one layer (embossed) and coloured with Copic markers.

Layer #4:

The fourth & final layer is simply the two scarves. I cut bits of embroidery thread & glued them to the back to make scarf fringe in green & turquoise to match the Copic colours. (Oh, and his blue skate too!--the skate blades are coloured with silver gel pen.)

and more thread for the snowflake knots:

how to make fake french knots
(warning, may be habit forming)

A) Make holes in your image wherever you'd like knots. (This is my all time favourite paper piercer--I've bought 5 and it's the bestest of them all.)

B) Thread your needle through to the front & secure on the back of your image

C) Tie a plain old knot on the front of your card

D) Go back down the hole you came up

E) Travel to the next hole on the back of your project

F) Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat... heehee

Here's a pictorial (+a whack of examples)
in case you're curious how to do it:

If you missed the hop this morning, then you're in for a treat. The other members of Mo's Dream Team will are sure to blow away with their AWEsome colouring & crafting talents!
