I've been thinking about thrifty tricks lately. This is just a super simple post, but maybe a potentially new use for old stamps? Makin' felt flowers using stamps:
Step 1) Stamp onto the back of felt.
You can use solid stamps or any stamps that you like the outline of. This is the SU set Ginormous Flowers. I like Stazon ink for this since it will dry, but still found that cutting away from the outlines of the stamped image a little is good because a little ink can show on the edges otherwise.
Step 2) Cut felt shapes out & dye if you like.
Cutting felt seems nicest with ultra sharp scissors. Even my dollar store scissors were better than the ones I always cut paper with. Dye it with reinkers if you want a different colour. You could also use alcohol ink for deep colours.
Step 3) Glue onto paper & let it dry well.
I used Tombow Monomulti for its flexibility (and I find it has great staying power on fibers) but it does seem to stay a little tacky. So...your needle may get a little sticky if you want to sew these. :O)
Gluing the felt on cardstock makes it easier to work with if you want to stick it on cards and especially if you want to sew it. (It keeps the felt from stretching out of shape. And it makes it so that you can shape the petals with your fingers as well, since the paper holds the shaping!) :O)
Step 4) If you're going to sew your flowers, piercing through the felt into the cardstock is handy. It makes stitching the felt a lot easier, because the flower is firm in your hand & easier to hold onto. The piercing holes show on the back of the cardstock, so you can see where you want to stitch.
Step 5) Stitch & bead the felt to embellish.
And this may be overstating the obvious, but it might be helpful (?): No need to slide the bead onto the thread before you complete the stitch just pop the bead onto the needle and finish stitching the way you would if there was no bead. The thread does all the work.
Step 6) Sew pieces together firmly or use a strong glue
and that's all! :O)
Hope you're having a great weekend!
