Night & Day peeking ribbon cards: Caardvarks May Arts Challenge

Posted on 00:30 by Unknown
First of all, Thank You! I just can't thank You All enough for your patience & your kindhearted, sweetness-filled, well-wishing. I only wish that I had the get-up-and-go to answer all your amazing messages individually, but please know that you're in my heart. I am more thankful for You than words can express!

Please Click these little pics, if you'd like to see extra large views:

On a personal note: These two very different cards are just too perfect for the moods in our house right now:

Sombre since Charles is sick now...
It's been a bit of a horror show around here (perfect for Halloween?) ;o). I've been super sick--as you know--and now my poor Darlin' has H1N1. Ugh! We caught it quickly & both got prescriptions for tamiflu. I hope none of your loved ones are sick!

...but on the bright side!
I'm feeling a tad better so I can work some--Been missing you all way too much (and of course, I can't go another day without some crafting! Not stamping has to be the most hazardous thing to your health, right?)

SO sorry that I'm so late posting about this challenge, but you do still have almost exactly 24 hours to enter the Caardvarks May Arts ribbon challenge. (Until midnight tonight: Saturday Oct 17th.) Hope you can squeak a card in there. ;o)

You can see the truly amazing cards that the Caardvarks Crew
made for the challenge here:

(Such brilliant ribbon ideas!)

...make cut shapes with ribbon peeking through,
(enabler alert: yummy May Arts Ribbon!) ;o)

NIGHT:
Caardvarks May Arts Silk ribbon Bats & braided fence (mel stampz)

Halloween card:
  • May Arts ribbons: 1/4 inch silk ribbon (black) & braid ribbon (black)
  • Spook Alley foil brocade paper (making memories)
  • Black cardstock, Exacto blade, pencil, double-sided tape
  • Halloween patterned papers & Black cardstock
  • Key tag punch

Step 1} Cut some bats out of paper (this paper had the bats in it already but you could use stamps, draw them, or use clip art--if you wanted to try it out)

Step 2} Lay the paper with the cut out bats over black cardstock & mark with pencil where you'll be covering with ribbon (so it shows through the bat-shaped holes)

Step 3}
Lay down the May Arts ribbon (This is May Arts black 1/4 silk ribbon which ties like a dream-so using it like this is practically criminal, but it has such a gorgeous texture!)

Step 4} Adhere the patterned paper with the bat cut-outs to the card (over the ribboned areas)

Step 5} Add patterned paper to the bottom (this Spook Alley paper has haunted houses on it.)

Step 6} Add May Arts braid (black) ribbon to make a little fence

Step 7} Add a sentiment (this was made with a key tag punch by paper shapers) I also stitched around the bats & stuck the cut out scraps on here too (coloured in with a black marker) for some batty variety.

This Cloudy scene card was
made using the same technique...

DAY:
Caardvarks May Arts Felt Flowers Clouds (mel stampz)

Cutting the clouds out of the patterned paper...
(Prima Marketing Animal Bash Collection "eager")

...and then layering May Arts floral felt ribbon under them
(and some digitally printed ledger paper under the ribbon too):

The grass was made with Abbey Road (My Mind's Eye) Round & round paper
and layered with May Arts faux suede ruffle edge ribbon

  • for a speedy version, you could die cut/punch your shapes out
  • or... stamp images/print digital to get your shapes & cut out the centers
  • instead of ribbon, use fabric/felt/crochet/lace... behind the images
  • or...use the fancy new lazer cut patterned papers you can buy
  • embellish around your cut outs: doodle, stitch, bead, glitter...
Blogging schedule: Assuming I don't catch that ol' swine flu from my sweet C (knock on wood!) ...then, I do hope to get to some more posts this week (albeit with very sporadic posting for the next while.)

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, for being YOU!
